A Word from Our Experts

Wynnstay has been involved in the development of the maize crop from its earliest days and we have become a significant and well-respected supplier of all associated inputs.

The Wynnstay team of experienced and knowledgeable specialists offer advice on every aspect of growing and feeding maize. From choosing the field and variety selection, to crop nutrition and weed control, to dietary and rationing advice, our technical team have got it covered.

The 2019 season was another challenging one for maize, but for different reasons. The drought conditions of 2018 were replaced by a wet summer in 2019 and in Shropshire we recorded 22 days of rainfall in June! The crops which were harvested before the rain came again, have analysed well and yields were generally good. This does emphasise the benefit of growing a high performing, early maturing variety which enables harvest to take place earlier, under better conditions

Wynnstay supply a range of high-quality maize seeds to suit different sites and farming systems.

We have an excellent relationship with some of the UK’s largest maize seed breeders, which allows us to gain access to the latest trial information and product development news, which is then shared with our customers.

Our Arable and Forage Specialists work closely with farmers throughout our trading area, offering guidance on the most cost-effective maize seed varieties for your particular farming system.

Our Arable Specialists are able to assess farm requirements to advise customers on how to maximise the maize crop for both production and quality, providing guidance on variety choice, crop nutrition, agronomy, maize cultivation and ensiling. Helpful advice on these key areas will ensure that the management of your crop is suited to the geographical and environmental conditions on your farm, and also the feed requirements and overall profitability of home-grown forage.
