Parasite Watch - 24th May 2019
By Wynnstay Animal Health Team 3 months ago

For those of you that aren’t aware of Parasite Watch – it’s an initiative run by Zoetis Animal Health which is now in its fourth year, Parasite Watch works to provide real-time data on parasite burdens. They are working with 24 farms spread across the country in order to give a realistic view as to what’s going on in various areas of the UK. It’s the UKs most comprehensive parasite tracking service.

So rather than working on parasite forecasts like NADIS and SCOPS do, this is based on actual real time data – through the use of FEC’s etc.

Key points to focus on at the moment are the decreasing nematodirus levels in the south, and an increasing risk of of nematodirus in the north. If in doubt it may be worth getting a FEC count to see what’s happening on your farm and then speaking to your animal health advisors about any necessary treatment options.

The fly season is also now upon us with a risk of fly strike in all areas, so please speak to your animal health advisors about what products are available for prevention and treatment to protect your flock.
